Bikers v. Heat, Round 2 June 19
Our second day of biking took us from Acqui Terme to Alba, 1000 m elevation gain, yep that's 3250 feet. IN THE HEAT!
I got up early to see the sites of Acqui Termi:

And the fountain in the center of town using the local thermal waters emerging at 74 degrees Celsius.
Then back to the hotel for breakfast and a quick exit, once more hoping to beat the heat.
Again, the views amazed us and were hard won.
The ups simply are NOT gradual and come in bursts.
Lunch was a bench in the shade as many cafes are closed on Mondays.
This bench happened to be outside the local police station.
Then on into Alba where Mary located an alternative transportation device:
Dinner was at a nice restaurant where they don't even ask how you want your meat, it comes medium rare.
And water costs $4 for less than a liter, ice is 30 cents extra per serving but a glass of wine only costs 2.50 euros. Go figure!
